Ebay completed auctions for similar 1986 $50 gold coins are selling for $600 or more. Go to ebay, select advanced search, enter the details and tick the box next to return completed auction results only. Then look at the auctions receiving bids and the final bid amount. This is a great estimate.

I'll give you 50$ for it... Doesn't sound like you're a collector and you can't spend it, so might as well turn it in for cash you can spend.

A 1986 $50 U.U. gold eagle bullion coin is worth the one ounce of gold in it. No one can give you a value due to gold values go up and down. A dealer will give you around the spot price of gold for it on the day you sell it. The last spot price I got was for Friday and it was $1,137.70 an ounce.

A 1986 $50 gold coin sold at auction by the US Marshall Service, District of Southern Florida with 14 bids, for $875.00. You've got quite a find!

You can check here: LINK This assumes you are talking about the 1986 American $50 Gold Eagle. Also note that there is usually a discount when selling to a dealer. (Not a huge one, but could be 5-10%)
