Question: Question on gold coins? (Posted by: khanman74 on 2009-09-16 14:58:26) Canadian Maple leaf or American Eagle 1 oz gold coins, are they 24 carrat sold gold? Which is better as an investment? And I noticed 9999 on some gold coins, what does that mean? thanks |

Posted by: Taiping on 2009-09-16, 20:02:39 No coin is 24 kt for it would be very soft and would damage easily. The American eagle gold coins are .9167 fine gold with .03 silver and .0533 copper. The Canadian gold maple leaf if .9999 fine and .0001 copper. The gold American Buffalo bullion coin is also .9999 fine. The price differences between the coins has to do with added collector value as well as availability. If one is going to invest in gold the cheapest way is to buy gold bars. Most gold bullion coins are way over priced if one just wants gold, for there are to many middlemen. You need to study the market more before jumping in. I do not give investment advice. Theres a lot of Buyer in American Eagle gold coin especially If this Coin is RARE with Error this will be consider a great numismatist piece of collection. .9999 fine is consider 24 K. |
